Custom shower glass

Measured after the walls are in, not before — which is why it fits. Framed, semi-frameless or frameless, in the hardware finish that matches your taps.

Why it's measured last

Nobody's shower opening is truly square

Glass is cut to a fixed size and it does not bend. An opening that is out by a few millimetres top to bottom — which is most openings in most houses — leaves a gap on one side if the glass was ordered from a drawing instead of measured off the finished wall.

So we template it on install day, once the panels are actually up. The glass is then made to the opening you have rather than the one the plan assumed, and it takes two to three weeks to come back. In the meantime the shower is completely usable with a tension rod and curtain — you are not waiting to wash.

Framed enclosures have a metal edge all the way round: the most forgiving of an out-of-square opening, the cheapest, and the easiest to seal. Semi-frameless drops the frame from the door itself. Frameless uses thicker glass with minimal hardware and needs the squarest opening — it looks the best and costs the most, and we'll tell you honestly whether your opening suits it.

What's in the price

Quoted before we start, not after

  • Templating on install day, off the finished wall.
  • Glass made to your opening, in your chosen style.
  • Hardware in a finish matched to your taps and shower head.
  • Fitting, levelling and sealing at a second short visit.
  • A tension rod and curtain to use in the meantime, if you want one.
  • Removal of the old doors and track.

Priced separately: structural changes to the opening, and any wall work needed to bring a badly out-of-square opening within tolerance for frameless glass.

How it runs

How the two visits work

  1. Install day: walls and base finished, then the opening is templated.
  2. You pick style, glass type and hardware finish while we're there.
  3. Glass is made to that template — two to three weeks.
  4. We come back for a short fitting visit.
  5. Old doors and track leave with us.
Common questions

About the glass

Why can't the glass be ready on install day?

Because it has to be measured off the finished wall to fit properly, and it can't be measured until that wall exists. Ordering from a drawing is how you end up with a gap down one side. The two to three week wait buys you glass that actually fits.

Can I use the shower while I wait?

Yes. The shower is fully finished and waterproof — only the doors are outstanding. A tension rod and curtain does the job, and we'll leave one up if you'd like.

Frameless or framed — what's the real difference?

Framed has a metal edge all round: cheapest, seals best, most forgiving of an out-of-square opening. Frameless uses thicker glass and minimal hardware: it looks the best and costs the most, and it needs a square opening to work. Semi-frameless sits in between.

In an older Calgary house the opening often decides this for you, and we'd rather say so than sell you frameless glass that ends up with a visible gap.

Does glass need special cleaning?

A squeegee after each shower does more than any product — hard water spotting is the only real enemy here and it comes from water drying on the glass. No abrasives.
