Replace, don't refinish

Why we don't reglaze tubs

Reglazing is cheaper on the day and that's the whole of its appeal. A sprayed coating sits on top of a tub that is already worn; it chips at the drain, discolours around the overflow, and within a few years you are looking at a peeling surface that cannot be repaired without stripping the lot.

Replacing costs more up front and ends the problem. You get a new acrylic tub rather than a coating over an old one, and the surround is replaced at the same time — which matters, because the wall is usually where the real damage is. A cracked or chalky fibreglass surround lets water behind it long before anything shows on the outside.

We fit the standard 60″×32″ alcove and the 5- and 6-foot sizes. If your tub is an unusual size or shape, we measure it and tell you honestly whether a stock tub will sit properly or whether the job is really a conversion.

What's in the price

Quoted before we start, not after

  • Removal of the old tub and surround, plus haul-away and disposal.
  • Inspection of the wall cavity, and a call to you if it isn't sound.
  • New acrylic tub, levelled and set on a proper bed.
  • Tile-less wall panels, corner shelves and a niche where the wall allows.
  • New tub and shower valve, spout, head and waste.
  • Site protection, cleanup, and the 20-year written warranty.

Priced separately and always shown separately: moving the drain, repairing rot or a soft subfloor, electrical work, flooring, and glass doors. Nothing appears on the invoice that wasn't discussed first.

How it runs

A replacement day

  1. Floors and hallway protected before anything is opened.
  2. Old tub and surround cut out and carried straight to the truck.
  3. Wall cavity checked — anything soft gets flagged to you there and then.
  4. New tub set, levelled and plumbed to the existing drain.
  5. Panels, trims and fixtures fitted.
  6. Silicone cures overnight; use it the next morning.
Common questions

Bathtub replacement, specifically

Can you reuse my existing taps?

Usually not, and we'd talk you out of it anyway. The valve sits inside the wall we're opening, so replacing it while everything is exposed costs very little. Leaving a fifteen-year-old cartridge behind a brand-new wall is how you end up opening that wall again.

Do I have to replace the floor too?

No. A tub swap doesn't disturb the floor beyond the tub's own footprint, and we finish the edge neatly against whatever is there. If the floor is already lifting or soft near the tub, that's usually a sign of a long-running leak — we'll show you what we find before deciding anything.

What about a cast iron tub?

We remove them. They're heavy and they usually come out in pieces rather than whole, which is noisy for an hour and then over with. It doesn't change the price or the timeline.

How soon can I use it?

The next morning. The tub itself is ready as soon as it's set, but the silicone seal around the edges needs overnight to cure properly. Using it the same evening is what causes the seal to fail early.
